TAG McLaren audio is set to become the first company to implement Dolby Pro Logic II in a consumer product. The AV32R (pictured) will soon be available with Pro Logic II as standard, or as a chargeable upgrade for existing owners.
Pro Logic II is Dolby's new technology to decode both existing Dolby Surround encoded material and conventional stereo recordings. Roger Dressier, Director of Technology Strategy, explains: "Pro Logic II was designed from the outset to convert conventional stereo music recordings, which will be with us for some time to come, to a natural, believable surround experience." Like Pro Logic, Pro Logic II has a centre speaker and stereo front speakers, but unlike Pro Logic, Pro Logic II also has stereo, full-bandwidth surround speakers.
More and more people are becoming accustomed to surround sound material, in both film and music, and they want non-surround material to take advantage of their surround playback systems. Pro Logic II addresses this problem, providing an elegant and natural-sounding solution.
