OK guys, I spent an hour and a half with this projector in a dark room and no sound today (really focused on the picture quality). First the details.

Medium sized room, white walls/ceiling, carpeted floor. Projector approximately 12' away from Dalite Model B matte white screen. Source was an old (looked very old anyway) Pioneer DVD player with the projector being fed through S-Video. Gamma correction was set to 'Normal' (which looked very close to the projectors 'Cinema' mode). Did a quick cal with Avia, making minor adjustments to Contrast, Brightness, and Sharpness (though Sharpness adjustment didn't look like it did a lot - looked pretty good whatever the setting). Color decoding was spot on, everything matched the 0% section of the RGB bars in Avia.

Test material was scenes from Shrek, Fifth Element, and Moulin Rouge.

First impressions: VERY bright (the M20X is going to be brighter???). Significantly brighter than I remember the LT-150 or Sony VW10/11 projectors being. Contrast quite good, not as good as the Sharp 9000 or Marantz VP12S1 but almost. Much better than the Sony VW10/11 or any other LCD I've seen. Absolutely no screendoor (was sitting right next to projector with the pic zoomed to its largest). The picture quality, while very good (liked it better than any LCD I've seen) didn't seem quite as good as the an LT-150 I'd seen which was being fed a progressive signal. I really would have liked to have seen this with a progressive player. Noticed slight dithering artifacts, not sure if progressive scan would fix those or not. Very little rainbow if any at all, and I didn't get any headaches or eye fatigue (which I did get with the LT-150). Overall I liked the projector and think it's a pretty good deal for about $3k. The dithering thing bothered me a little, I don't know if that will get better with progressive scan or not but no one else has reported on it so I'm assuming this was something with the setup (if someone else has seen this projector please comment). That was my only qualm, the brightness and contrast and lack of rainbows/headache are all big pluses in my book and I'll probably buy one and see if the dithering thing sticks around in a new setup or not. If you have any questions please feel free to ask.

1) How were the blacks in Moulin Rouge on the M20XA? Its a great DVD to eval the black levels and contrast.

2) How was the color saturation with the Moulin Rouge DVD? Deep reds or did things seem washed out (like there was too much white in them)? That opening dance number in Moulin Rouge has lots of saturated colors, and definitely lots of reds.

3) Were you watching in 16:9 mode?

4) Any obvious white segment adjustments in the projector's menus?

There was some light spillage out of the back and side of the unit, but none towards the front. Fan noise was moderate, but rather low in frequency. Remote worked pretty well, full sized (not dinky). Easy to change aspect ratio from the remote (on-touch resize to cycle through 16:9, 4:3, 4:3 displayed inside 16:9, etc).

Answers to mlivesay:

1) Black level was good, but shadow detail was average. That aspect reminded me a lot of the Sharp 9000 I had seen.

2) Color seemed fine, I didn't notice reds being orange or anything like that. I'm a newbie though so maybe I don't have the eye for it. I didn't find the colors lacking at all though.

3) Yes, depending on which DVD I had in the player (all were rentals).

4) Not that I noticed, no.

BTW this was the M-20XA version that I saw, and it was still really bright! I'll probably still wait for the regular version though. Also I think the 9000 actually has a 2.5x (150hz?) RGBRGB which they then call a '5x'.

This appears to be a really cool projector. If I read the manual correctly, you really could use this projector as a 16:9 like projector.

One button on the remote allows you to switch the aspec ratios Plus do some digital streching to make 4:3 fit a 16:9 screen and unstrech 4:3 for perfect 16:9.

If you can live without 25% of the pics, this is a 16:9 projector.

This PJ also appears to be PC friendly so I think it will be a hit among
the HTPC guys.

I started out looking at this PJ and then was scared away, yet because of you guys, it appears to really fit all of my needs
