Geez, Criterion is really being good to us with some big announcements lately, aren't they? First The Rock, now Spartacus. Due on 4/24 (so expect it to arrive around August, har har) is the long-awaited 2-disc of Kubrick's classic. The set features a new anamorphic widescreen transfer and Dolby Digital and DTS 5.1 soundtracks, and what looks to be a port of the Criterion laserdisc special features, including deleted scenes, the "Spartacus Newsreel," still galleries with original promotional materials, a production photo essay and storyboards, and the "Breaking The Hollywood Blacklist". Expect the full details to be released soon, and retail is $49.95.
