Leading the way for JVC’s new season of goodies is the TH-A9R, a cheaper, restyled version of the plaudit-winning TH-A10R DVD home cinema system in a box. The stylish blue and silver DVD unit - featuring a top-loading DVD tray! - will play CD-R/RW discs, as well as decoding DOlby Digital and DTS soundtracks. It connects to a powered subwoofer, to which also are connected five diddy satellite speakers. The sub’s onboard multichannel amp chucks out 5 x 20W at 0.7 per cent THD to the satellites and 100W to itself. The main DVD player also has an RDS FM/AM tuner. Look out for it from August for around Ј699. More full home cinema packages are going to be available from May featuring JVC’s InteriArt designs. Based around the RX-E100R AV centre (a multichannel amp with Dolby Digital/DTS and switch-box functionality), the matching XV-E100SL DVD player, the SP-X100 satellite speaker system, and the SX-PW100 active subwoofer, three different packages are going to be available. The CP-100AL features all the above-mentioned components and will cost around Ј700 (the total of all the bits if you bought them separately being around Ј849). The CP-100SP is the same but without the DVD player for folk who already have one. And the CP-100DV contains just the AV controller unit and the DVD player for people who want to use their own speakers.
When it comes to standalone players, it’s no surprise to find JVC getting heavily in on the DVD-A act. Topping things off is the XV-FA90 7-disc multichanger (with the XV-FA92 silver version). Out in September for the strikingly low price of around Ј450, this manages to get seven discs in the space you’d normall only find five courtesy of an innovative overlapping system developed by JVC. Also out in September for Ј399 is the XV-SA70, a single-tray DVD-A/DVD-Video deck with CD-RW and MP3 capability. A silver version, the XV-SA72 will also be available.
At the bottom of the new JVC range will be the Ј250 XV-S42, a single-tray DVD Video-only deck featuring a new ultra-slim design (also found on the XV-SA70/72) and RGB output, and available from April.
Wrapping up we find a host of multi-changing DVD-Video players. The XV-F80 (plus the silver version, the XV-F82) uses the same 7-disc mechanism as the XV-FA90 DVD-A player, while the XV-M50 and silver XV-M52 house three trays in the more typical vertical stacking configuration.
