Really coming into its own at this year's Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas was in-car DVD. Panasonic's range of products (shown left) included 7in on- and in-dash LCD screens (very nice they looked too), a DVD player with RDS radio tuner and cute centre speaker built in, an in-dash digital surround sound decoder and, amazingly, an in-car DVD-Audio deck. Now we just need a few more DVD-Adiscs to play on it, please...
Pioneer's XDV-P9 in-car DVD player, meanwhile, offered a 6-disc changer mechanism, only beaten to the multi-disc prize by Sanyo's remarkable 10-disc holding DV-100 (also pictured).
Finally an honourable mention must go to JVC. They had a full in-car DVD video/surround sound demo in place featuring the $899 Dolby Digital-output capable KV-DV7 DVD player (out in the US in April), the UV-M700 6.4in colour LCD screen, a full set of surround sound speakers and, for fans of old tech everywhere, even an in-dash VHS VCR
