' I successfully applied the above hack. It is not a replacement firmware, but somehow it unlocks the original firmware. I downloaded the rar file, expanded it with WinRAR program and burnt the ISO to a CD. After that it was as simple as playing the CD in the player. Tried a region 2 DVD and it played fine. Tried a region B Blu-ray and it refused to play. The hack is for DVD only. I thought I needed to play the CD every time before loading a foreign DVD, but the hack seemed to stick across power on/off so just an one-time hack was enough. Great!
