I have almost 30 HD-DVD titles, 5 Blu-Ray titles, and both the Toshiba HD-A1 and Samsung BD-P1000. I'm using those with a Sony Ruby (1080p projector), a Gennum VXP scaler (true 1080i inverse telecine de-intelracing), and a 8 feet wide screen. The Samsung is not a bad player by itself, but the Blu-Ray titles are simply not on the same level compared to HD-DVD titles. I'm really disappointed with Blu-Ray. Some HD-DVD titles like Chronicle of Riddick, Constantine, Bourne Supremacy, etc have top-notch audio and video. But Blu-Ray titles are not on the same level yet. They are just a little bit better then some really good SD-DVDs titles upscaled to 1080p by my Gennum scaler.... That's sad... I would have been happy with Blu-Ray if HD-DVD was not already on the market! I'm anxious to try the Pioneer Elite Blu-Ray player, but at 3X the price of the Toshiba HD-A1, it's not easy to justify right now... If Blu-Ray start using BD-50 and VC-1, then, maybe, PQ will be able to compete with the picture quality that we have with HD-DVD right now... But for 3X the price? For approximately the same picture and sound quality? IMHO, Blu-Ray titles were definitely rushed to the market... I don't care about any format "war", and I really don't care about which side will win... All I want is HD titles, and for now, only HD-DVD is giving me the picture quality I was expecting. Blu-Ray is not there yet. http://www.digitalhomecanada.com/forum/showthread.php?t=45195 |
