General news : UK customs changing their policy regarding adult DVD imports? Following our recent news of the BBFC having relaxed their censorship of 18 rated movies, we can report that in the uk.media.dvd newsgroup yesterday, a very pleased chap posted that he had received his Jenna Jameson Flashpoint XXX DVD after it had been opened and inspected by customs. With the DVD was this note : "After considering the impact of recent developments concerning the domestic distribution of material depicting consensual sexual activity between adults, we have now revised our guidelines for the assessment of such material. We no longer consider material depicting consensual sexual activity between adults to fall within the scope of the import prohibitation on obscene articles. There in accordance with your request, I am releasing the DVD to you. Please sign and return the enclosed receipt confirming that you have received the tape". Note that they refer to the DVD as a 'tape'. Is this just a 'copying and pasting' error in their reply? If so, then maybe they have been 'copying and pasting' lots of similar notes. For those of you who believe that adults in the UK should be able to purchase such material (even if you don't watch it yourselves) then this is a good sign. It seems to indicate that the new customs policy as reported by the Melon Farmers website is being followed where it counts - at the point where they inspect DVDs. If you have received your adult DVDs with the approval of customs, please let us know. (We won't print your name if you'd rather remain anonymous). |
