CZECHS HANDED GOAL INCENTIVE
PRAGUE, June 23 (Euro 2004) - Czech Republic goalscorers against Germany will
reportedly receive a million euros (#665,000) each if they find the net.
The pledge, from the Dutch Chamber of Commerce in Prague, rewards the first
four Czech goalscorers, according to De Gelderlander newspaper in Holland.
``You must look at this as a playful action to build up the commerce between
Holland and the Czech Republic,'' said spokesman Herman Neufeld.
``The economy in both countries can benefit from a defeat of Germany on the
football field.''
The millions will still be handed over if the Czech players score but Germany
win the game.
``We want to spark the sporting duty of the Czechs,'' Neufeld said. ``We do
not expect a 4-3, but you never know.
``Football is playing a huge role in the lives of the Czechs. Especially after
the way their team played in Portugal. The people here would like to see their
team beat the German team.
``We have called the chairman of the Czech FA about our plans and he
appreciates it enormously.''
