`Картинка отменная. Звук, кажется, несколько глуховат. Впрочем, я не сравнивал его с тем, что был на старом диске. Bit rate там, кстати, 448 кб/с, а не 384, как в предыд. версии.

`LEON: Dolby Digital 5.1 Mix Problems - by Jeff McNeal
10:36 am PST - The nice thing about having alert readers is that when we make a mistake on occasion, they're certain to call us on it. Case in point: We have ammended our review of LEON after a few readers asked us to go back and have another listen. Sure enough, it turns out that we must have been listening to the Prologic soundtrack when writing our review comments, since the main Dolby Digital 5.1 soundtrack is for all practical purposes, devoid of all rear-channel information.

We were able to eek out some sound from the rear split surrounds after cranking up the gain by 10 dB on those speakers -- and placing our ears directly against the grill.

That's not a good thing. Any sound we were able to hear we attribute to bleed-through in the mix, rather than anything intentional.

The Dolby ProLogic track still sounds terrific though, with the musical score coming alive and filling the room -- as does the DD 5.1 isolated score. Both actively utlize the rear speakers.

However, don't expect to hear bullets whizzing over your head or glass windows shattering behind you -- because it simply isn't going to happen with this DD 5.1 mix. We've sent a query to our contacts at Columbia TriStar for comment. We'll be certain to let our readers know what their response is.

Editor's Note: Here is the entire reply we received from Columbia TriStar's spokesman, which frankly, is something less than what we were hoping for: "The audio source wasn't the same as the one used on the original release."
