At $5,000, one would expect the Halo D1 Disc Player to offer versatility in supporting today's dizzying proliferation of formats. DVD-Audio and Video, CD-R and CD-RW, HDCD, DTS, Dolby Digital, even MP-3 are all supported. Parasound claims the D1 is socketed to accept a DSD decoder for SACD when specifications are finalized. On the video side, the D1 applies Sage/Faroudja DCDi scaling (including both deinterlacing and video enhancement circuits) to internal and external signals for its progressive outputs, and Silicon Image SI-861 processing for interlaced. The front panel display can be used both for operational control and content preview.

Looking beyond the present 5.1 player decoding standards, the D1's 7.1 analog outputs are a rarity among disc players. In addition to the D-1's VGA connector, Parasound claims it is the first player on the market with a DVI output for digital video.
