I have the original LP and the 45's and SACD.My favorite is the 45's. The SACD and the original LP sounds very close to each other. I have more "reality", from the vinyl.

I have the Columbia Vinyl issued the year it first came out, and the SACD disk. The absence of all the noise on the vinyl is a joy. To me the SACD sounds even better in several respects. Perhaps I would have a different view if I heard that 45 rpm version on high quality vinyl stock.

I must sheepishly admit that the SACD I picked up for a fraction of what I spent for the 45 LPs sounds, to my ears, every bit as good.

I must have about 5 versions of SoS on vinyl and CD, and all are so treble titled, and often distorted, that I couldn't stand it either. But on SACD, while it's still "bright" the music finally can be enjoyed - and how!

Sketches of Spain *** Acceptable Sonics *** (среди Excellent Sonics, Very Good Sonics, Good Sonics, Acceptable Sonics, So-So Sonics)

Sketches of Spain: went for the Classic LP, many reports indicate SACD bright. Current Sony vinyl sounds dark, but still much richer than the very thin-sounding Legacy CD copy I have.

CD is no match for SACD with big band recordings. IMO the improvement on SoS is even more remarkable than KoB, which is no comparison, as Rich says.

I have found that the DSD mastered Redbook versions close the gap considerably between the SACD and Redbook versions, although I still prefer the SACD version.

Believe it or not, I disliked Sketches of Spain so much I sold it before realizing I had not addressed the issue of polarity. After reversing my leads and reacquiring Sketches, I was floored.
