`Our old mate Guy Rowland over at DVDplus has dug up a couple of snippets about the already almost mythical Phantom Menace DVD. Word has it - this is all rumour and speculation, you understand! - that the transfer of the film was actually completed in March, with the rest of the work on the DVD beginning last month. The latest gossip suggests that George Lucas has approached Industrial Light And Magic, the special effects gurus, to produce brand new material for the disc's menu screens. Potentially even more exciting than this, though, is a rumour that Lucas has also been following the development of the upcoming Terminator 2 special edition DVD particularly closely, since he hopes to use the ground-breaking technology its using on his own Phantom Menace release. Oh, and the latest guesstimate about the disc's likely release date is possibly Christmas 2000, more likely 2001. Yes, yes, I know you can't wait that long, but them's the breaks, people, them's the breaks... ` ` |
