Hi everyone l went with John to see the new Pioneer 47A dvd player and agree 100% with him on this player. l e-mailed Roger at Pioneer Canada and this is what l sent him. Hi Roger, my friend John and l went Saturday Mar.3rd to Canadian Sound to see
the new Pioneer Elite DV-47A player.We had Don at the store set the player up
with the DV-38A and the Sony 9000ES player to compare the sight and sound.My
first reaction looking at the 47A was disappointment when compared with the
DV-38A.The over all construction of the 47A was half the size and a 1/3 of the
weight of the 38A.We then played the Fifth Element (chapter 9) in the 47A and
liked the picture.Then we took the same movie and chapter and put in the 38A to
compare and John, Don and myself agreed that the picture was noticeably better
from the 38A to the 47A.Then we compared the two with dvd audio disk (Hotel
California) in both players and again we all agreed that the music sounded
better from the 38A.Then we compared SACD music in 2-channel only with the 47A
and the Sony 9000ES.We played a track from Clien Dion disk in both machines and
was found the Sony gave more highs and bights than the 47A.Yet when we played
James Taylor in both machines we liked the sound better from the 47A than the
Sony.Overall l was going there with allot of hope that 47A was going home with
me; but it's not.l realize Pioneer is targeting a segment of the market with
this player and l say to you IF you wanted the people who bought the 38A to
trade up the 47A it isn't going to happen.The 38A is a far superior machine in
every aspect except of course no SACD format. My friend John and l agreed that
Pioneer should have taken the 38A put the SACD chip in side and call the unit
the 49A or anything else for that matter and l think then that unit would have
come home with both John and me.l hope Roger, that Pioneer has a unit like that
waiting in the wings to come out; because if you do then I'll be making a
purchase at Canadian Sound from Steve and the boys.Talk care Roger. AND THIS WAS HIS REPLY Tony,
Thanks for the heads up. I am "almost" glad to hear that the DV-38A is better
since I personally own one myself. As far as I know, there is no "replacement"
model for the DV-38A with SACD capability comming down the pipe in any short
order (that does NOT mean that there WON'T be a model "superior to" the DV-47A,
just not now). I am sure that there will be SOME actions taken especially if the
DV-47A does NOT "live up" to the standards set by such machined as the DV-09,
DV-38A and DV-AX10.
