More from Sony on NS900 problems OK, here's the very latest from Sony regarding the ongoing problems some people are experiencing with their NS900 DVD players. First, Sony reiterates its claim that it is only a few NS900s that are being affected, not all of them. Second, Sony assures us that every NS900 shipped from its own factories from February 1 is without the problem. However, it admits that there may be one or two older rogue samples still in dealer's stock rooms, so it recommends that you try and make sure that any sample you buy did not arrive in your dealer's store until after the February 1 watershed. Next, for people who already own affected players Sony assures us that the 'fix' to put them right does NOT involve snipping any pins or in any other way removing other functionality from the NS900. Apparently all authorised Sony dealers and repair centres have been issued with the procedure for correctly repairing defective NS900s, and should be returning an NS900 to you that works perfectly and fully. So if that has not been the case (and we've certainly heard of a few occasions where it hasn't), go back to your dealer with Sony's assurances to hand and get them to set you up with a non-botched player. This should hopefully sort the majority of disgruntled NS900 owners out - but if your dealer absolutely refuses to play ball, or you've somehow managed to procure a defective NS900 from a non-authorised Sony dealer, Sony suggests that you call its customer helpline on 08705 111999 from where it will try to help you out on a case by case basis. Finally, of course, Sony apologises wholeheartedly for any inconvenience the NS900 saga may have caused... |
