Since this unit records on MiniDisc it can randomly access desired tracks. This allows for quick and easy digital editing on the unit. Besides being used as a camcorder this unit will also play back regular audio MiniDiscs (although it will not record on regular MiniDiscs) and can also record and play back up to 260 minutes of stereo audio on a MD DATA2 disc. Note that each image or audio recording is called a track. Tracks length depends on how long you recorded the picture or audio. For example, a still image is one track, as is a 5 minute movie segment. The MD DATA2 discs used by this unit look exactly like an audio MiniDisc, but they are labeled MDview MD DATA2 and contain 650 MB of recordable space. Trying to record on a standard audio MiniDisc will display a message stating that they can not be used to record.
