Marantz goes it alone Electronics giant Philips is to relinquish its controlling hold over premium brand Marantz. Marantz Japan Inc (MJI) is buying back the Marantz trademark, as well as the European and American sales companies currently owned by Philips, in a bid to improve Marantz's global 'value chain' and, according to Philips, show to the market that "from this moment onwards, MJI solely is in charge of its strategic direction." It will be interesting to see if this new split means Marantz will still be as active in supporting some of Philips less commercial projects, such as SACD. |
